Start

1. Type. There is no account or setup.
2. Wait for "Saved on this device" after a change. Sync is optional.
3. Tap commands on a phone, or press Command/Ctrl + K, to find an action.
4. Export a Markdown copy when the writing matters.

Commands

Keyboard editing shows Markdown markers at the cursor. Mouse selection keeps the text rendered. Use Show all Markdown source to keep the markers visible. The eye button temporarily hides the writing on screen; it does not change the saved document.

In Commands, type to filter the list, then tap an action. Undo and Redo are available here too. With a keyboard, use Up/Down to choose a command, Enter to run it, and Escape to return to the writing. Use Command on a Mac and Ctrl on Windows or Linux for the shortcuts below.

Moving and selecting

Arrow keys stay in the writing. Left at the start of a line moves to the previous line. Up and Down follow visible rows, including wrapped text and blank lines inside open packages. Hold Shift with an arrow key to select text.

Up or Down can select a closed package as one item. A blinking outline surrounds the selected package and replaces the text cursor. Press Enter to open it, start typing to edit its text, or press Up/Down again to move past it. The outline stays steady when your device uses reduced motion. It disappears when focus moves to another control.

Tab accepts a visible slash suggestion. Otherwise, Tab indents text and Shift + Tab removes indentation. To reach controls from the writing, press Escape, then Tab within two seconds. Use Shift + Tab to move backward. Escape also dismisses the current suggestion or closes the open package or rolodex. Typing or moving the cursor returns Tab to editing.

Packages and the timeline

Type /package Title on a new line, then press Enter. Write inside the package and press Escape to close it. You can also type /end on its own line and press Enter. Continue writing immediately afterward. To organize existing writing, select it and choose Make package from selection in Commands.

Type / at the start of a line to see a command suggestion. Tab completes /package in the timeline. Add a title and press Enter to create the package. Inside a package, Tab completes /end and Enter closes it. Escape dismisses a suggestion before it closes the package. Suggestions do not appear in code, pasted text, or full Markdown source.

A closed package shows its title and a short preview. Tap or click it, or select it with Up/Down and press Enter to open it. Edit its title in the header. Enter saves the title; Escape cancels the title edit. Escape from the package text closes it and keeps your writing. Named packages cannot contain other named packages.

Select rolodex at the upper left, or press Command/Ctrl + Shift + M to browse packages. Use Up/Down or j/k to choose a package. Home/End reach the first or last package. Right/l or Enter opens it. Left/h or Escape returns to your original text selection. The row with keyboard focus has an outline; the amber title alone marks the current package or reading position. Vim letters work only in focused package controls. In writing and title fields, h/j/k/l type letters.

Press Escape from the timeline to hide the rolodex. Sorting by title or document order rearranges only the index. Editing earlier writing never moves it to the bottom. On narrow screens, opening a package closes the rolodex to make room for writing.

Package boundaries and titles travel with Markdown export and encrypted sync. Opening, closing, and sorting are view choices for this session. The rolodex appears when you reopen writing that contains named packages. With no packages yet, its upper-left control opens instructions without changing your writing.

Package actions

Open actions on a named or pasted-text package to copy its text, unwrap it into ordinary writing, or delete it. Delete asks for confirmation before removing the package and its text.

With actions focused, use Right/l to enter the menu, Up/Down or j/k to move between actions, and Home/End to reach the first or last action. Enter or Space runs the focused action. Left/h or Escape closes the menu and returns focus to actions. Tab moves between its controls.

Pasted text

Pasting six or more lines makes one collapsible package. The first three lines stay visible. Select expand to show the rest, or collapse pasted text to fold it again. Visible text uses the same cursor and selection as ordinary writing. Copy includes all enclosed text, including folded lines. The package boundary is stored as hidden Markdown comments, so it survives reload and encrypted sync. Unwrap and delete reach other enrolled devices through the next normal sync update.

Find and footnotes

Press Command/Ctrl + F to search the whole writing document, including package titles and text inside closed packages. Enter moves forward and Shift + Enter moves backward. Escape returns to your original passage; done keeps the found position.

Select a footnote reference to read its note. Choose edit note to edit the definition, then Escape or returnto resume at the reference. Search and footnotes stay on this device.

Files and history

The current document and up to 50 revisions live in this browser profile. Clearing site data or losing the device can remove them.

Open Local history in Commands and choose a revision to read it before making a change. Select Restore this revisionto use it. The replaced writing remains in local history. Use Back to history to inspect another revision or Keep writing to return to the document.

• Export Markdown downloads a .md copy.
• Import Markdown accepts text or Markdown files up to 5 MB.
• Clear document empties the editor; the earlier text remains in local history.

Only one tab can edit at a time. If another tab is active, use Make this window active to continue here.

Sync

1. Select Enable sync, then choose Start new sync and complete the security check.
2. When the status reads Synced, select it to open the sync panel.
3. From there, copy the access link, show its QR code, or switch to a different synced writing.
4. Open the link on another device. That browser verifies and decrypts the document locally.
5. Let one device finish syncing before editing on another.

Connect or switch with your phone

1. First open the synced writing on your phone by scanning its access QR.
2. On the other computer, select Enable sync, then Use writing from your phone. If that computer is already connected to another writing, select Synced, then Switch synced writing.
3. Scan the computer's one-time pairing code with your phone.
4. Finish on the computer. Select Open writing if it is empty, or Use writing from phone after reviewing what will be replaced.

The pairing code expires after five minutes and contains no document access key. Nothing changes until the other writing is verified and you confirm. Canceling keeps the current sync; replaced writing remains in local history. Once connected, the computers sync normally and the phone can be put away.

Limits

• Sync stores one current encrypted snapshot, not remote history.
• The encrypted snapshot limit is 1 MiB.
• Remote data expires after 30 days without an accepted update.
• Typehere stores text; it does not upload embedded images.
• If sync fails, keep the tab open and export your local copy.
• If a link fails, check that it includes everything after #.
